Manipur CM N Biren Singh reaches Delhi to meet BJP leaders

Chief Minister N Biren Singh

Days after the National People’s Party (NPP)  legislators, who withdrew support to the Manipur government, reconsidered their decision,  chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday flew to Delhi to “discuss and finalise” issues related to his council of ministers.

Chief minister Singh would brief the party leadership about the prevailing situation and allocation of portfolios among his ministers, which is inevitable with the return of the four NPP MLAs to the government fold.

“This trip is important. He will be meeting party leadership. He has to know about the deal, which has been brokered to save the government and the road ahead,” The Telegraph quoted CMO sources as saying.

The resignation of the four NPP MLAs — Y. Joykumar Singh, L. Jayantakumar Singh, N. Kayisii and Letpao Haokip— on June 17 from Singh’s council of ministers against his alleged autocratic style of functioning had reduced the government into a minority two days before the Rajya Sabha polls.

AS per reports, NPP legislators are waiting for allocation of their portfolios before joining.

Miffed at the functioning of chief minister Singh, the four NPP MLAs along with one All India Trinamool Congress MLA and one Independent legislator had withdrawn support to the coalition government on June 17.

The same day three BJP MLAs resigned both from the party and membership of the Manipur Legislative Assembly taking the party’s tally to 18 and the coalition’s total to 23.

Despite the developments, the BJP’s candidate secured a win in the Rajya Sabha polls on June 19 securing 28 votes to the Congress nominee’s 24.

The NPP legislator, however, later decided to back the BJP-led government after a party delegation led by Manipur Deputy CM Joy Kumar Singh met BJP president JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah  in Delhi.
