Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday called on his ailing Guru, former footballer Oja Huidrom Raghumani.

The chief minister met Oja Huidrom Raghumani, who was the founding president of Neroca Football Club, as the former footballer is currently not keeping well.

Chief minister N Biren, while sharing a joint picture with Oja Huidrom Raghumani on his Twitter handle, admitted that it was Oja Huidrom, who had guided and encouraged him in his early football career.

The chief minister has prayed for the good health of the founding president of Neroca FC.

“Visited my beloved Guru, Oja Huidrom Raghumani to check up on his health. Oja who hasn’t been keeping well lately was the Founding President of @NerocaFC. His guidance & encouragement helped me profoundly during my early football career. I pray for his good health & long life,” chief minister N Biren tweeted on Sunday.

Neroca FC is an Indian professional football club based in Imphal.

The football club, which competes in the I-League, made its I-League 2nd Division debut in the 2015–16 season.

The football club from the northeastern state of Manipur won the 2016-17 I-League 2nd Division and secured promotion to the I-League.

Neroca is the only club from Northeast India to reach the final of Durand Cup.

N Biren Singh joined the BSF football team and was the first Manipuri footballer to play outside the state.

He was part of the BSF team that won the Durand Cup defeating Mohun Bagan in 1981.

He quit the BSF football team in 1982.

N Biren played football for more than 10 years for the state football team of Manipur.
