Imphal: Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday inaugurated three infrastructure projects in Imphal East district and flagged off a key road upgradation work, underscoring the state governmentโs push to strengthen connectivity and education infrastructure.
The projects inaugurated at Moirangpurel included the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge built under theย Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojanaย (PMGSY), a Model Residential School constructed under theย Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakramย (PMJVK), and a new Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School developed underย Samagra Shiksha.
The Chief Minister also flagged off the upgradation of a 18.50-km road stretch from NH-202 at Lamlai to Thoubal Dam at Napet Palli. The project, supervised by the Public Works Department, is part of a road network linking NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) and NH-102(A) (Shangshak-Tengnoupal road). The work is expected to be completed within a year.
The Science and Arts Block at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.78 crore under Samagra Shiksha Manipur and implemented by the Education Engineering Wing. The infrastructure includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate toilets for boys and girls, and a rainwater harvesting system.
The Model Residential School, funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs under PMJVK, was built at a cost of approximately Rs 25.62 crore.
The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge, constructed over the Thoubal River at a distance of 2.10 km under Keirao Bitra Block, was sanctioned at Rs 645.84 lakh under PMGSY-I. The project was executed by M/s NDS Construction, a Special Class contractor.
Addressing the gathering at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School, Singh said the institution had been unable to function optimally due to a shortage of teachers. He assured that necessary steps would be taken to address the issue.
During the programme, the Chief Minister was apprised of alleged unlawful activities along the Moirangpurel road, reportedly involving certain security personnel. Taking serious note of the information, he directed the Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough investigation.
He also instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East to submit a report on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Laikhong village who have not yet received Direct Benefit Transfer assistance for purchasing mattresses. The Deputy Commissioner assured that the pending cases would be resolved in coordination with the Home Department.
MLA Th. Shyamkumar of Andro Assembly Constituency lauded the Chief Ministerโs leadership and support for development initiatives. Khongbantabam Ibomcha said the pace of development had accelerated following the formation of the new government.
MLA Leishiyo Keishing of Phungyar Assembly Constituency suggested that upgrading the road connecting Napet Palli and Ashang Khullen to National Highway status would significantly enhance connectivity, transportation, and economic opportunities in the region.
The programme was attended by Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Chief Engineer, PWD, Chongtham Biswachandra Singh, officials of the Education Department, students and local residents, among others.
