Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday, a day after distributing portfolios to his newly appointed Council of Ministers, including two Deputy Chief Ministers, on Wednesday.
“We held comprehensive deliberations on key matters of administration and governance with a firm commitment to delivering a more citizen-centric system founded on transparency and accountability,” the Chief Minister wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday.
The Chief Minister stated that several important administrative decisions were adopted for implementation, reflecting the governmentโs continued resolve to strengthen policies and practices that promote peace, security, and inclusive development.
“These efforts remain essential to advancing stability, sustainable growth, and the overall prosperity of our state,” the post added, emphasizing, “Together, we remain dedicated to building a stronger and more progressive Manipur for the welfare of every citizen.”
While the Chief Minister retains charge of eight departments, along with those not specifically allotted, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen has been assigned Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, as well as Tribal Affairs and Hills.
Another Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho, has been given charge of the Public Health Engineering department, as well as Forests, Environment, and Climate Change.
Among other ministers, Konthoujam Govindas Singh has been allocated the Home department along with Youth Affairs and Sports, while Khuraijam Loken Singh has been entrusted with the Arts and Culture department in addition to Tourism.
Meanwhile, reports close to the Chief Minister indicate that the much-awaited ministry expansion is likely to take place after the Yaoshang festival, which ends on March 7, 2026.
As per the 91st Constitutional Amendment Act, 2003, the Council of Ministers cannot exceed 15 percent of the strength of the Legislative Assembly.
In the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly, which currently has 58 MLAs, the ministry could be expanded up to 12 members.
