Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh will formally launch the new health scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojana, (PM-JAY), a special health scheme for the poor in Imphal on Sunday.

The programme will be launched nationwide by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day.

This was conveyed by the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Langpoklakpam Jayentakumar Singh while addressing a press conference in connection with the upcoming health scheme at the old secretariat conference hall in Imphal on Friday.

Health Minister Jayentakumar said that introduction of the new scheme will be a landmark in the health sector of the country, adding that poor people who are eligible to get the benefit under the new scheme will be entitled to for free treatment in the government and empanelled private hospitals.

The scheme will now cover free medical insurance up to Rs five lakhs.

The Health Minister also maintained that around thirty numbers of health and wellness centres have been opened in Imphal West, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Chandel districts with the objective to promote public health and their well being.

Free diagnostic centres have also been opened in order to ensure free laboratory and diagnostic test facilities.

Joint Secretary of Health, Rang Peter; Director of Health Services, Manipur, Dr K Rajo Singh; Managing Directors of Shija Hospital and Research institute, Raj Medicity, Advance Hospital; medical superintendents of district hospitals and others also attended the occasion.
