Imphal: Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday approved the construction of 5,000 new houses for the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana โ Gramin (PMAYโG).
The approval follows a proposal submitted by the Manipur government for a special project under PMAY-G to construct houses for those affected by the ethnic violence in the state. The decision covers the financial year 2025โ26 and was taken after a meeting between Chouhan and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by the stateโs two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho. During the meeting, Chouhan assured the ministers of all possible support to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The Union Rural Development Ministry also approved the use of a special window of the Awass+ 2024 household survey to capture details of eligible affected households. The state government has been authorised to continue the registration of beneficiaries under this special project.
The Ministry emphasised that beneficiaries for the project must be identified strictly according to PMAY-G guidelines. Details of eligible beneficiaries are to be uploaded through the Awass+ 2024 mobile application. The new houses will be constructed in accordance with the provisions of the Financial and Functional Instructions (FFI) of PMAY-G.
The state government has also been permitted to sanction houses for beneficiaries whose homes had received one or more instalments under PMAY-G but were subsequently destroyed during the ethnic violence.
