Manipur: Ceiling on health benefits under CMHT scheme to be increased for marginalised segment

The health benefits given to the marginalised families of Manipur under Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT), a new health assurance scheme launched in Manipur, will be increased up to Rs 5 lakhs under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana from the month of August this year.

The Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh made an announcement in this regard in an interaction with the media at the State Secretariat office in Imphal on Thursday.

Minister Jayantakumar said that CMHT is one of the important components of the ‘Khungang Chatse: Go to the Village’ Mission which is being taken up by the coalition Government in the State to provide benefits of various schemes to the beneficiaries.

The scheme at present provides cover up to Rs 2 lakh per eligible family identified from the Socio Economic Caste Census in the treatment of seven critical identified critical ailments -cardiovascular diseases, kidney ailments, neurological conditions, liver ailments, cancer, neo-natal diseases and burns per year.

He said the scheme aims to uplift the quality of healthcare given to the poor and needy people of the State. He also appreciated the health officials and staffs for the successful implementation of the CMHT scheme. Speaking about the benefits under the scheme, the minister said that so far 79,000 CMHT card has been distributed and issuance of new cards is still under progress.

The CMHT has won the award for country’s best implemented public health programme three months after it was formally launched in January this year. It got the award in the category of ‘The Most Efficiently-run Public Health Programme by a State Government’ at a health summit held in Pune on March 9 last.

The minister also appealed to the people to cooperate with the Government in its bid to make the society more liveable. The interaction programme was also attended by the Principal Secretary (Health), V Vumlunmang, Joint Secretary (Health), R Peter, Director (Health Services – Manipur), K Rajo Singh, and an official team of the World Health Organization (WHO).
