Manipur beefs up security ahead of Independence Day

The Manipur Government has directed the police and the paramilitary forces deployed in the state to beef up security ahead of the Independence Day. 

Security has been beefed up in all the sensitive areas across Manipur to prevent any untoward from taking place in the run-up to Independence Day.

Troopers from the Assam Rifles, Manipur Rifles and other security agencies are assisting the state police in cordon and search operations. 

The Manipur Police has informed that it has thus far not arrested any individual or recovered any arms and ammunition during the operations.

Raids are being carried out in all places “where the insurgents may be lying low”. 

Notably, the insurgent outfits from Manipur have been boycotting Independence Day celebrations every year. 

It is expected that the insurgent outfits may call for a boycott or a shutdown this year too.
