Continuing with its efforts to curb the drug menace in the state of Manipur, Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended an alleged drug peddler near Mahadev Camp on National Highway-202 on Tuesday, according to a press release.
The individual was carrying 7 kgs of processed opium on his motorcycle worth around Rs 7 lakhs in the open market as informed by Assam Rifles (South) PRO in a press release.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Hegin Baite, 26, a resident of New Saibol, Saikul and has been booked at Litan Police Station for further proceedings.
In another development, the Assam rifles troops have apprehended an active woman cadre of Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Lambui on Monday. Lambui is located about 60 km north of Imphal.
On receipt of reliable input regarding movement of an active cadre of MNRF, Shangshak Battalion under 10 Sector launched search operation along with Mahila Police from Litan Police Station and apprehended the cadre.

The detainee was identified as Yaothing Kasar, 19, daughter of Stephen Kasar, a resident of Lambui village under Manipur’s Ukhrul district. She joined the proscribed underground outfit in 2018 as mentioned in the press release. She has been handed over to Litan Police Women team for further proceedings.
On the other hand, Keithelmanbi Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles conducted a monthly security meet at Lilong Company Operating Base. The security forum was attended by village pradhans, councillors, ward members and locals.
During the meet various aspects concerning security in the area were discussed. There was also an interaction carried out on necessary measures required to be undertaken by locals in synergy with Assam Rifles for maintaining a strict vigil in the area.
In addition to security issues, career counseling for the youngsters and future action plans of civic projects were also discussed.
