IMPHAL: A group of protestors attempted to breach the Churachandpur SP office in Manipur following the suspension of a head constable who was reportedly seen with armed individuals in a video.
According to officials, around 300-400 people were involved in the incident, prompting security forces, including the RAF, to intervene with tear gas shells to manage the situation.
The situation remains under surveillance, as stated by Manipur police.
Several vehicles were also torched by the mob near the SP’s office in Churachandpur, Manipur.
“A mob numbering approximately 300-400 attempted to storm the office of SP CCP today, pelting stone, etc. The SF (security forces) including RAF is responding appropriately by firing tear gas shell to control the situation. Things are under watch,” the Manipur police said.
Earlier, a head constable in Churachandpur district of Manipur was suspended after a video surfaced online showing him with armed individuals.
Shivanand Surve, SP of Churachandpur district in Manipur, issued the suspension order on Thursday (February 15).
The memorandum mentioned that a departmental inquiry, following Rule 66 Part-III of the Assam Police Manual (APM), is being considered against head constable Siamlalpaul.
The suspension of the head constable is effective immediately and until further notice.
