Imphal: In a significant development during continuous search operations, a joint team of central and state forces unearthed a hidden cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in the interdistrict areas of Churachandpur and Bishnupur, according to a report from the Manipur police.

Acting on intelligence inputs that warring groups in these interdistrict areas were attempting to escalate the ongoing ethnic violence, the joint team comprising Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched extensive search operations.

The operation focused on area domination at the fringe and vulnerable areas along the Khujairok Turel River.

The operation concluded successfully with the recovery of a significant arsenal.

However, the armed miscreants managed to escape upon detecting the approaching law enforcement personnel.

Among the seized items were:

  • One self-loading rifle (SLR) with a magazine
  • One bolt-action rifle
  • One 9 mm empty magazine
  • Five high explosive-36 hand grenades
  • One Chinese hand grenade
  • Thirteen .303 HD cartridges
  • Four grenade arming rings
  • Five tube launchers
  • One 2-inch mortar shell
  • One 81 mm mortar shell
  • One rocket-propelled grenade shell

All recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation and disposal.
