The second edition of the 5-day state level Shirui Lily festival was inaugurated at the picturesque Shirui village ground, about 100 km north east of Imphal in Ukhrul district on Tuesday.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated the festival. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren reiterated that the new Government’s mission is to deliver the assurances that they had made to the public.

Recalling the promises the government made in April last year to complete women’s market complex and black topping of the Ukhrul town road, he said among these completed projects, ten projects had been inaugurated so far.
Maintaining that the new initiative ‘Go to Village’ mission that would be launched on May 1, he said initially the Government would develop 60 model villages, one each from every Assembly constituency of the state.
“Let’s live together with unity. We need to forgive and forget and put in a collective effort for a better future,” he said.

Chief Minister also inaugurated a women’s market at the district headquarters.
The Shirui festival was held under aegis of Tourism department Manipur with the support of North Eastern Council to spread awareness about conservation of the endangered state flower-Shirui Lily and promote the district as a tourist destination.
Discovered in 1946 by Frank Kingdom Ward, a botanist from UK, locally known as Shirui Lily, rare species of terrestrial lily grown naturally is found only Shirui Kashong Peak which is 2,835 metres above sea level this pinkish flower’s beauty lies in its bell shape petals. The festival was held from May 16-20 in 2017 at the same venue.
