Manipur: 3 PREPAK leaders including chairman Sathy killed in road mishap; ULFA(I) condoles their demise

Three militant leaders of Manipur’s rebel outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were killed in a road mishap on Sunday in an undisclosed forest area.

The deceased have been identified as PREPAK’s acting chairman, 58-year-old Khumujam Ratan alias Sathy alias Hera alias Awangba Meitei, organisation secretary Mayengbam Joychand and GSO-1 RK Ramananda.

United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has condoled the demise of the militant leaders.

The PREPAK in a release said after the incident, the outfit has dissolved the central committee and a five-member interim council has been formed.

The new interim committee will look after the outfit’s affairs till a central committee is formed.

The ULFA(I) in a statement issued by ‘Captain’ Rumel Asom, a member of the publicity department of the outfit said: “With a heavy heart on behalf of the United Liberation Front of Asom [Independent), I am offering our sincere and deep condolences to all the office-bearers and cadres of People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak and the citizens of Manipur including their families at the accidental deaths of chairman Khuujan Ratan, general secretary Mayengbam Joyce and, GSO-1 RK Ramananda.”

“It is not that I have lost my counterpart with his able officers in the freedom struggle for the WESEA region, Manipur has lost three indomitable revolutionary sons of the soil,” Rumel Asom stated.

“History will remember them and the future generations should be inspired to fulfil their incomplete task of restoration of the stolen sovereignty of Manipur,” the ULFA(I) statement further said.
