Seeking safety, around 200 villagers crossed the border into India through Border Pillars Number 79 and 80 in Moreh.

Imphal: Approximately 200 Myanmarese civilians, primarily women and children, sought refuge at Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district following renewed clashes between Myanmar’s military junta and rebel groups near the border.

The incident, which reportedly began around noon on Tuesday, sparked panic at Walphabung village, Tamu district in Myanmar.

Seeking safety, around 200 villagers crossed the border into India through Border Pillars Number 79 and 80 in Moreh, said an official.

This is not the first instance of refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar. In November 2023, over 6,000 Myanmarese, including various ethnicities, escaped fighting and entered Manipur through eastern border districts like Ukhrul and Kamjong.

Many of these refugees remain in relief camps.
