IMPHAL: Numerous electors in various parts of Manipur were displaced due to conflict since May 3 last year, and are now residing in relief camps across different districts.

Despite their displacement, they remain enrolled in their original electoral constituencies of Manipur.

Consequently, the Election Commission of India, in consultation with the Central and Manipur governments, has decided to keep these displaced individuals on the electoral rolls of Manipur and establish special polling stations in relief camps to enable them to vote.

Pursuant to constitutional provisions, the Commission has designated these internally displaced persons as ‘specified voters’ and appointed Assistant Returning Officers to facilitate their voting process.

Designated officers have been appointed for each district where relief camps are located, totaling ten districts at present.
