Harvesting of lotus has filled the Loktak Lake in Manipur with freshness. 

Loktak Lake, situated at Moirang in Manipur, is the largest fresh water lake in the Northeast.

Loktak Lake is a major resource for many people in Manipur. 

Many families are dependent on the resources of this lake as a source of income. 

Resources like fisheries, agriculture, irrigation etc, are readily utilizable from this lake.

Over the years, harvest of lotus flower has evolved as a major source of income for many in nearby areas. 

Lotus plants grow in large numbers in Loktak Lake.

The lake is also a source of livelihood for the rural fishermen who live in the surrounding areas. 

Loktak Lake is also known for its biodiversity. 

57 species of waterbirds and another 14 species of wetland associated birds have been noted in the lake. 

The Keibul Lamjao National Park located at the south western part of the lake, is the world’s only floating national park. 

It is home to the endangered Manipuri brow-antlered deer – Sangai.
