Manipur CM expresses anguish over Assam floods

The flood situation in Assam has anguished Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh as the death toll has increased to 18.

Till date, over 9.26 lakh people have been affected by floods in Assam.

“Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in Assam due to flood,” Manipur chief minister N Biren tweeted on Sunday.

He also expressed his sympathy towards the families and friends of Assam flood victims.

“On behalf of Manipur, I extend my deepest sympathy to the families & friends who lost their loved ones,” the Manipur CM said.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected,” he added.

According to the latest Assam Disaster management Authority (ASDMA) flood report, a total of 23 districts in Assam have been affected by floods.

A total of 2,071 villages/localities have been submerged by flood waters across the state.

Barpeta is the worst affected district where a total of 395 villages have been affected, followed by Dhemaji district where 265 villages have been affected by floods.

The authorities have set up a total of 193 relief camps across Assam which have housed 27,308 inmates.
