IMPHAL: For the first time in Lok Sabha elections, the voting through postal ballot paper for Absentee Voters, people above 85 years of age, and those with more than 40 per cent disability residing in Manipur were able to cast their votes from home on Sunday.

Manipur has 21,815 service electors and Postal Ballots to all will be sent through the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) by respective Returning officers, officials said.

On Sunday, the voting through postal ballot paper for Absentee Voters for Imphal West district commenced in connection with the 18th Lok Sabha Elections, 2024.

This initiative facilitates voting rights to Senior Citizens for 85 years and above (AVSC) and Persons with Disabilities with at least 40% disability (AVPD) at their respective houses.

The 1st round of house-to-house visits for Absentee Voters, which began on Sunday (April 14, 2024), will continue till 15th April 2024 from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. daily. A total of 1,997 eligible Absentee Voters have been identified by the District Election Officer, Imphal West district from 13 Assembly Constituencies.

Forty-one separate polling teams, each comprising two Polling Officials, one Videographer, one Micro-Observer, and two police personnel have been appointed for house-to-house visits to all the eligible Absentee Voters for the issue and receipt of the Postal Ballots.

The 2nd Round of house-to-house visits for Absentee Voters is scheduled on 16th April 2024 from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.
