Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday reviewed the security situation in Manipur during a high-level meeting in New Delhi.
Attendees included Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Army Chief (Designate) Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, GoC Three Corps HS Sahi, Security Advisor to Manipur Kuldiep Singh, Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh, and Assam Rifles DG Pradeep Chandran Nair. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in North Block, the national capital.
The meeting followed a briefing by Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uike, who had met with the Home Minister the previous day to discuss the situation in the northeastern state.
This meeting was convened amid reports of fresh violence in Manipur. The state has been experiencing clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities since May 3 of last year, resulting in at least 225 deaths and displacing approximately 50,000 people, many of whom remain in relief centers.
Recent incidents include the arson of a school building near Moreh and the discovery of a missing person’s beheaded body. Additionally, last week, armed militants ambushed the convoy of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s advanced security team in Kangpokpi district, injuring a civilian driver and a security officer.
On June 10, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat emphasized that restoring peace in Manipur should be a priority, highlighting the need to move beyond election rhetoric to address the state’s pressing issues.
