A five-day-old baby died at Churachandpur district in Manipur following a district hospital allegedly declined to admit him in the hospital.
The incident takes place two days after the death of a pregnant woman from Noney district, who was refused treatment at five hospitals of the state.
Family sources said Ngainunfel Suantak delivered a baby boy at their home at Dorcas veng on last Sunday. On Thursday, the newborn baby was taken to a private clinic, after he developed some complications.
The doctor of the private clinic subsequently referred him to Churachandpur District Hospital, advising that he has to be administered oxygen, said a family member.
Accordingly, the baby was rushed to the casualty ward of the district hospital. However, it has been alleged that the doctor on duty did not bother to check him immediately.
It is said that a nurse recorded the temperature of the boy and a doctor on duty prescribed medicine and sent them home.
On their return journey to their home, the condition of the baby deteriorated and he succumbed around 8:30 pm Thursday.
Following the death of the baby, angry locals stormed the district hospital.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and bring the situation under control.
The local residents have submitted a memorandum to the hospital authority demanding action against the doctors and nurses of the hospital.
