Aiming to mitigate environmental pollution in the state, the Manipur government plans to introduce e-rickshaws and electric buses and replace the existing modes of public transport.
This was informed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday in a function where he distributed cheques of Rs 5000 each to 3080 eco-clubs of the state.

“The detailed project report is being prepared,” said the CM.
“Steps are also being taken for cleaning degraded rivers including the Imphal, Thoubal, Kongba and Iril, apart from the ongoing Nambul river rejuvenation project,” he added.
The CM also urged all to put a halt on the rampant deforestation and large-scale poppy plantation on the hills as these have caused massive soil erosion.

“Appointment of nine-year-old Elangbam Valentina Devi as the green ambassador of the state will encourage people to plant more trees and protect them,” he said.
