IMPHAL: In a joint operation on Wednesday (July 17), state and central forces in Manipur apprehended an alleged drug smuggler and seized 129 grams of heroin.

The seized Heroin has been estimated to value over Rs 60 lakhs at the Kwakta crossing point under Phoubakchao Ikhai police station in Bishnupur district of Manipur.

According to Manipur police, the operation was conducted by a combined team from the Manipur police, central reserve police force (CRPF) and Indian Army based on specific intelligence.

The team carried out a checking and frisking operation at Kwakta Cross Road around 8 am on Wednesday (July 17).

During this operation, Phundreimayum Nawaz Sharif (23), a resident of Kwakta ward number VIII, was arrested with the Heroin.

The drug, weighing approximately 129 grams and valued at around Rs 60 lakhs in the Kwakta bazaar, were hidden in ten soap cases.

The arrested individual revealed that the contraband had been smuggled into Kwakta bazaar from Myanmar via Churachandpur district in Manipur.

Both the accused and the seized Heroin have been handed over to the Manipur police for further legal proceedings under the NDPS Act of 1985.
