IMPHAL: An 11-year-old girl student lost her life after being attacked with an iron rod while on her way to an exam centre in Thoubal district of Manipur.

The incident occurred on Thursday (June 06) morning as Jenita Sapamm, a class six student, was riding her bicycle to appear for her monthly examination at the Ibemchal Visal Academy of Khongjom in Thoubal district of Manipur at approximately 7:30 am.

According to officials, the assailant, identified as Sapam Sarat (45), struck Jenita’s head with an iron rod, causing her to faint.

Despite his attempt to flee the scene, Sarat was apprehended by passers-by who witnessed the horrific assault.

They subdued him and handed him over to the Khongjom police station in Manipur.

Jenita was promptly rushed to the Thoubal district hospital and later transferred to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, for further treatment.

Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries en-route to the RIMS.

The attack left her with a severe injury caused by the iron rod piercing her head.

The accused, along with the weapon used in the crime, was apprehended and is currently detained at the police station pending legal proceedings.

Both the victim and the assailant hailed from the same locality.
