With the demise of two more COVID19 positive patients in the last 24 hours in Manipur, the death toll in the state increased to 62.

Manipur registered 96 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the total active cases to 9,376 on Wednesday, which include 2,033 personnel from the central armed police force (CAPF), health officials said.

“In the past 24 hours, 77 persons (44 male, 33 female) from the general population and 19 personnel from central armed police force were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases,” said Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the health department said on Wednesday.

The infected persons (general population) are from Imphal West (24), Imphal East (19), Kakching (10), Senapati (1), Thoubal (12), Bishnupur (1), Kangpokpi (1), Churachandpur (4), Tamenglong (1), Chandel (1), Jiribam (3), a release issued by Dr Mangang said.

Ten persons out of the general population are returnees from other states while the rest 67 are locals without any significant travel history, it said adding they are being shifted to the COVID care facilities.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

In the last 24 hours, two males aged 5 years (Kangpokpi) and 53 years (Imphal West) expired at Shija hospital due to COVID19 infection and other co-morbid health conditions, the release said.

The cumulative number of COVID19 deaths in Manipur increased to 62 in the last 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, 221 persons were discharged from 8 COVID care facilities after they were found COVID19 free during RT-PCR test.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 9,376 while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,206 and 7,108 respectively, the release said.

The recovery rate is 74.81%.

On Tuesday, the state recorded its biggest single-day tally of 270 COVID19 cases.

Earlier, a record of 249 COVID19 cases in a single day was recorded on August 7, 2020.
