With the sudden improvement of testing rates of the samples, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Manipur has increased to 921 with the detection of 23 new positive cases on Tuesday, health officials said.

Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, spokesperson of the health department in a statement said that 23 persons including five male and 18 females were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases from the VRDL (Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences-7) and JNIMS (Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences-16) in the last 24 hours.

Of the new cases two are from Chandel, one from Churachandpur, six from Imphal West, one from Kakching, two from Kangpokpi and eleven from Senapati, Mangang said.

He said that all are returnees from other states.

They are being shifted to the COVID Care facilities, it added.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The total numbers of positive and active cases are 921 and 663 respectively.

The total number of recovered cases is 258.The recovery case is 28.01 percent.

On Tuesday, 8 persons including 5 from Imphal west district,one from Kakching and two from Noney districts were discharged from COVID care centre opened at UNACCO school premises in the outskirt of Imphal after they were found COVID 19 free on Real Time PCR test, it added.

The state records daily testing records of more than 1500 samples in an average since the last few days.

Around five health workers including two doctors and three nurses, who have no travel history, were reported tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.
