Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Saturday said cooperative plays a significant role in boosting the socio-economic condition of the State.

Minister Kipgen said this while delivering a speech at the one-day State Level Seminar on Cooperative for Social and Economic Changes in Manipur at Iboyaima Sumang Lila Shanglen complex in Imphal on Saturday.

Minister of Cooperation and Social Welfare Kipgen was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function of the seminar.

The seminar was also attended by Principal Secretary, Cooperation, Manipur JC Ramthanga, President, Manipur State Cooperative Union (MSCU) L Tompishak Singh, Deputy Secretary, Cooperation, Manipur K Bono Singh, Vice President (Valley) MSCU, Jeena Potsangbam, Vice President (Hill) MSCU, Jangkhongam Haokip, Member, Board of Management, MSCU, S Hemanta and Member, Board of Management, MSCU, L Basanta Sharma.

It is a known fact that cooperative organization brings economic development and also social changes through self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, solidarity and belief in ethical values of honesty and social responsibilities.

She stated that the social and economic benefits of co-operatives have far reaching impact and as such, there is the need of support from all so that the benefits reach all the stakeholders.

She believed that the standard of living of BPL families can be improved by imparting cooperative knowledge and through effective implementation of various cooperative techniques and skills from seminars, workshops and training programs held in different parts of the State.

Minister Kipgen also informed that under Manipur State Women Development Corporation, various special development trainings especially for women like weaving, tailoring, embroidery, computer, one-day awareness program for empowerment of women, etc. are conducted in different parts of the State.

Through such trainings and programms, employment and human resources will be generated massively for socio-economic development for all, she added.

The inaugural function of the seminar, which was organized by MSCU, Manipur under the sponsorship of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), New Delhi, was followed by a technical session.
