Imphal: Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, on Friday said the Prime Minister has transformed the outlook of the northeastern states and stressed that state governments must work in close coordination with the Centre to ensure sustained development.

During his visit to Imphal, he chaired a state review meeting on the implementation of ongoing schemes of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at the conference hall of the Old Secretariat in Babupara.

The review meeting included detailed presentations on various centrally sponsored flagship programmes being implemented by the state government.

Departmental review sessions were also held on the completed and ongoing works of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO), and National Buildings Construction Corporation (India) Limited (NBCC).

He stated that the overall progress presented by the departments was satisfactory. However, he directed officials to submit reports highlighting issues and challenges that are affecting the timely execution of projects.

Emphasising the importance of deadlines, Sahu said all schemes must be implemented efficiently and completed within the stipulated time frame, allowing for exceptions only where unavoidable. He also instructed departments to provide written inputs on projects requiring special attention during implementation.

Senior officials present at the meeting included IAS Sumant Singh, Commissioner, RD & PR, Sarath Chandra Aroju, IAS, Additional Secretary, MAHUD, Hari Kumar Singh, CEO of the Imphal Smart City Mission, N Gitkumar, Consultant Town Planner, and N Benju Singh, Chief Town Planner, Manipur. Officials from the MAHUD, Town Planning Department, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), CPWD, HUDCO and NBCC were also present.

Later in the day, the minister visited the Nongpok Torban Development Project being implemented under the Imphal Smart City Mission. He also held a brief discussion with the Governor on future strategies and the way forward for urban development in the state.
