Imphal: Under the Prime Minister’s Jan Man Scheme (JanMan), a flagship initiative dedicated to uplifting vulnerable and particularly marginalized communities across India, the Centre has sanctioned a Rs 9 crore development program for the Maram Naga tribe of Manipur.
The population of the Maram tribe in Manipur is estimated to be around 50,000. The Marams primarily inhabit the Senapati and Kangpokpi districts of Manipur.
The official reported that the annual amount was sanctioned to support a range of welfare projects, including the implementation of PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana), PM Ayushman Bharat, and the construction of Anganwadi Centres, community halls, and water storage facilities.
The funds have been earmarked for the preservation of the Maram community’s traditional Morungs, cultural heritage, and ancestral practices.
The official further reported that the government’s development agenda is guided by the ethos of “Development for everyone – together we trust progress.”
These projects aim not only to foster infrastructural advancement but also to promote empowerment and self-reliance within tribal communities.
In commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on November 14, 2025, the Senapati District Level Sardar @150 Padyatra – Unity March organized a peace march on the theme “Ek Bharat – Aatmanirbhar Bharat” at Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, under Lairouching Sub-division, Senapati district.
The program was organized by Mera Yuva Bharat, Senapati, together with District Youth Affairs and Sports and the National Service Scheme Cell.
Altogether, around 200 students and teachers, mostly Maram people, participated in the march that began with the floral tribute and lighting of candles to the portrait of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Sabastian K.D., SDB, Principal, Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, followed by the program organizers.
