In an effort to contain the spreading of COVID-19 in Manipur, the bed capacity of COVID Care Centre in the state has been increased to 253 from 100 beds.

Ambulances were distributed to district hospital on Tuesday, officials said.

The state first ever UNACCO COVID Care Centre at Imphal West district started functioning from June 13 with initially 100 beds.

However, the State government has increased the bed capacity to 253 now and plans to add 43 more beds in the coming days, said an official.

Around 75 COVID-19 patients have been admitted till Tuesday morning in the Centre.

The government has also processed recruitment of healthcare workers to be assigned duty at the Centre.

State government also distributed two ambulances and five Mahindra Bolero SUV cars to the district level hospitals of Manipur.

The vehicles were distributed by health minister L. Jayentakumar in Imphal.

The Minister said that two more ambulances had been procured by the department to meet the present requirement.
