Troops of Assam Rifles at the initiative of the Headquarters of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) seized 9 trucks of pinewood being illegally transported from Phungyar and Nungshang in Ukhrul district to Imphal recently.
Based on secret inputs, a team of Assam Rifles established a vehicle check post at Finch Corner, Shakpao in Ukhrul district and seized 9 trucks carrying huge quantity of pinewood logs worth Rs 10 lakh without permits for the same, said the PRO, Headquarters, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) in a press release.

The consignment of smuggled pinewood was obtained from Phungyar and Nungshang and was being illegally transported to Imphal.

The drivers of the 9 vehicles along with the illegal consignment have been handed over to the forest beat office at Finch Corner, it said.

On December 23, the troops of Assam Rifles also claimed to have seized five trucks of timber (Khangrawood) being illegally transported from Nungshang and Singkap in Ukhrul district
The team of Assam Rifles reportedly seized five vehicles carrying approximately 30 tonnes of timber logs worth Rs 20 lakh without permits for the same during the incident.
