The Singhat Battalion of the Assam Rifles has organized a maiden educational tour to Imphal, the capital city of Manipur for the students of border and remote villages.

Continuing with the traditions of Assam Rifles since it’s raising, the tour was flagged off from Singhat on Wednesday amid much enthusiasm of the participating students.

A total of 40 students and 12 teachers of St Mary’s School located at Behiang, a remote village under Singhat sub division in Manipur’s Churachandur district participated in the tour.

The educational tour will include visit to the places of historic and scientific importance such as War Memorial, War Cemetery, Botanical Garden, Science Centre – all located around greater Imphal area, INA Museum and Loktak Lake located around Moirang under Bishnupur district.

“The entire tour will be completed in one day wherein the students will get a glimpse of the heritage and the history of the beautiful city of Imphal which they otherwise only see on television and in videos,” said Singhat battalion authority in a press release.

“These small steps by the Assam Rifles will motivate more and more students to join schools and would also make them aware of the latest happenings in the State,” the statement further added.

This noble initiative would go far in maintaining peace and harmony in the region which the younger generation can look forward to, it added.
