Imphal: India’s leading wushu athlete Naorem Roshibina Devi secured the silver medal in the women’s Sanda 60kg category at the 20th Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 24.
Roshibina put up a determined performance in the final but was eventually defeated by China’s Xiaoyu Zhang, who took the gold medal.
With the silver, Roshibina became the first Indian wushu athlete to win medals at three consecutive Asian Games. She had earlier claimed bronze at Jakarta 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2023.
Her journey to the final included a convincing 5-0 victory over Macao’s Chu Man Sin in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, which secured India’s first confirmed wushu medal at the Games.
Following her historic achievement, the Manipur Police congratulated Roshibina, who serves as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the department.
The department said its personnel, along with people across Manipur, stood behind the athlete as she progressed from Kwaksiphai to the Asian Games podium. It also highlighted her achievements as an inspiration for young people and members of the police force.
