In order to accommodate the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in Manipur for treatment, the state government on Monday inaugurated a new COVID care centre at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West district.

The new COVID care centre, which will initially have 300 beds, was formally inaugurated by chief minister N Biren Singh.

In the beginning, the Centre will have four blocks.

Currently, there are not less than a dozen COVID care centres across the state.

Speaking to media persons, chief minister N Biren appealed to the people to come out openly for early treatment instead of concealing their COVID-19 status if tested positive.

He also said that the COVID care centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong will be upgraded to a 1000-bedded Centre as it has enough space for extension.

He appreciated the health department and other officials for setting up the Covid Care Centre so that infected people can get timely treatment.

In a facebook post on Monday, CM Biren wrote, “People’s support is of immense importance at this difficult time in tackling the pandemic. I appeal to my people to please come out openly for early treatment instead of concealing their COVID-19 status if tested positive.”

Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar and health minister L Jayantakumar, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar and other officials were present during the inauguration.
