At least 12 key members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) joined the BJP in Manipur.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday felicitated them in Imphal, Indian Express reported.
NPF is one of the key allies of the BJP-led Manipur government, after the National People’s Party (NPP). NPF has four MLAs in Manipur.
Chief Minister N Biren said the joining of the members will not affect the relationship between the BJP and NPF.
“The reason why they (NPF members) joined BJP is mainly due to their fondness of the party because of the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the substantial changes brought in the state and country,” Indian Express quoted Singh as saying.
Singh said more people from other political parties have expressed their interest in joining BJP.
He further said BJP will win at least 15 seats in the hill districts and more than 30 in the valley areas.
The Manipur Assembly election is likely to be held in April next year.
