The Manipur University (MU) on Monday extended the leave period of incumbent Vice Chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey until the completion of the inquiry proceedings against him and until the necessary follow up action is taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority.

An order issued in this regard by Manipur University registrar (in-charge), Sh Dorendrajit Singh stated that Prof Pandey’s leave has been extended with effect from September 1.
A joint meeting of the varsity community, CVOs, Meira Paibi groups and student organizations was held on Monday at the office of MUTA and discussed at length the latest development relating to the on-going varsity issue.
The meet also resolved to boycott Pandey from the varsity and to urge the authority concerned to take up appropriate actions against Pandey to prevent him from interfering with functioning of the varsity.
The university community also resolved that Pandey will not be allowed to assume office of the Vice Chancellor under any prevailing circumstances.
The meeting also resolved to appeal to the relevant university authority to hasten the work of the independent inquiry committee and necessary follow up action.
Notably, Pandey, has issued an official letter on Saturday intimating the registrar of the University that he has resumed his duty with immediate effect after taking a leave of 30 days from August 2.
The same day, Pandey had also passed an order banning the Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs’ Association (MUSA) terminating their existence against Manipur University Act 2005.
However, the Monday’s meeting declared all the interim ‘official orders’ issued by Pandey from last Saturday as null and void.
