A police checking team and CID technical team stationed at Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district of Manipur nabbed two persons and seized 55 gm of brown sugar, valued around Rs 11 lakh from them on Friday.

The arrested duo has been identified as 30-year-old Silver Lunglo, son of late Joseph Lunglo of Lambui and 31-year-old Awungshi Shangreiyo Zimik, son of AS Wungnaohei Zimik, Ramva village, both under Ukhrul district, police said.

The brown sugar was brought in 4 soap caps, concealed in apples in a carton, police said. A case has been registered against them at Moreh Police Station.

On Thursday, the Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur Police arrested two persons along with 7 kg and 520.5 gm of brown sugar worth around Rs 80 lakh from the local market at Sapermeina, a small hill town located about 30 km north of Imphal along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway, police said.

“Acting on a reliable information, a team of NAB Manipur arrested two persons namely Longjam Tomchou Meitei (49), son of Iboton of Koirengei Bazar Achanbigei under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district and Yumnam Ibotomba (54), son of (L) Bira of Khonghampat Awang Leikai under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district along with 7 kilograms and 520.5 grams of brown sugar from Saparmeina bazaar,” said SP (NAB), Manipur, W Basu Singh, in a press release.

Further, one silver colour Maruti Wagon R car (AS01BG/1493) and a sum of Rs 15,260 in cash and other incriminating articles were also seized from their possession, it said.

The value of the seized drug is Rs 80 lakh in local market. A case has been registered under Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act at the NAB Police station and investigation is on, the release added.

The eight persons including the chairman of Chandel Autonomous District Council, who were arrested along with a huge quantity of narcotics besides a large amount of cash were produced before the ND&PS court in Imphal and remanded to police custody till July 2, reports added.
