Manipur along with the rest of the country celebrated National Science Day on Thursday.

The Advance Level State Biotech Hub, department of Biochemistry and Department of Library & Information Science, Manipur University jointly organized the celebration of National Science Day 2019 at the conference hall of the library of Manipur University, with the theme ‘Science for the People and People for Science’.

The celebration function was attended by administrator and vice chancellor of the university, Jarnail Singh; librarian in-charge, professor.

Th Madhuri Devi; dean, School of Life Sciences, professor G A Shantibala Devi; department of Physics, professor S Dorendrajit Singh and director of All India Radio, Imphal, Dilip Mayengbam were present as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively, according to reports.

Since 1987, Indian scientific Community have celebrated the National Science Day in remembrance of C V Raman’s contribution to science.

Notably, the celebrated Indian scientist Sir C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect on February 28, 1928. After discovering the Raman Effect in 1928, he was knighted by the British government in India and received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1930.

Meanwhile, the departments of Sciences, Don Bosco College, Maram also observed National Science Day, 2019.

The function was attended by principal, reverend father K.O. Sebastian, administrator reverend father Ranjan Toppo, HoDs of various departments of Science and student representatives.

The programme was followed by quiz competition on science, laboratory show cum seminar presentation by the students.
The Thoubal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles too celebrated the National Science Day at Ananda Purna High School in Thoubal District, by conducting an awareness programme along with essay writing competition.

The awareness programme commenced with interactive lectures by the school principal and the Thoubal Company Commander on ‘Importance of National Science Day” and ‘Contribution of Bharat Ratna, C V Raman’ in the field of science and the exemplary work for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.
