A conglomeration of student bodies of Manipur has called an indefinite state-wide bandh from Friday claiming the State Government failed to fulfill its promise for recruitment of tribal language (MIL) lecturers at the higher secondary schools of the State.

The student bodies are Thadou Student’s Association General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ), Siamsinpawlpi General Headquarters (SSPP-GHQ), Rongmei Naga Student’s Organisation, North East India (RNSO- NEI) and Liangmei Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR-AMN).

Interacting with media at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Wednesday, the education secretary of LNKR-AMN, Rofica Newmai, said that on March 12 the Sabinet had taken a decision to recruit 42 lecturers for nine tribal languages (MIL).

However, the student bodies have alleged that this decision seems to have been overturned and in a recent order for recruitment of 409 teachers, there were no posts announced for tribal MIL subjects.

Rofica claimed earlier that the joint student bodies had served an ultimatum to the government demanding immediate issue of recruitment notification for tribal MIL lecturers within a month.

The government had also assured a positive response to the demand, the student leader had claimed.

Referring to the recent recruitment notification of 409 lecturers, the student bodies have asked the recruitment committee to strictly comply with the regulation of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTC), 2014 norms and further asked not to deprive the rights and privileges of trained candidates.
