The Assam Rifles Archery Team (ARAT) has brought laurels to Assam Rifles with a splendid performance during the three-day Manipur Senior State Archery Championship 2017 by winning a total of six gold, two silver and two bronze medals including two gold medals in team events.

The Manipur Senior State Archery Championship 2017 concluded at Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal on Sunday.

The Assam Rifles Archery Team (ARAT) fielded archers in individual and teams events of Recurve, Compound and Indian Round of the tournament.

For the first time, a women’s team in individual and team event of the Indian Round of the tournament was also fielded comprising of women soldiers of Assam Rifles. This was informed by Assam Rifles sources.

The Assam Rifles players made the commendable performance under the coach, Naib Subedar Satish Dubey in both individual events.

Assam Rifles sources informed that in the men’s category, Rifleman Th Sanatomba Singh won gold medal in the Olympic Round of Recurve category while the ARAT won gold medal in the team event of the same category. In the Compound category, Rifleman (General Duty) G Robert Sharma won gold medal in the individual Olympic Round and was also adjudged overall Best Archer in the Compound category winning an additional gold medal in the tournament.

The Assam Rifles Archery Team also won gold medal of the team event in the Compound category.

In the Indian Round, Rifleman (General Duty) Ishak Sinate was able to win silver medal and Rifleman (General Duty) Ch Hari Chandra won bronze medal in both individual Olympic round and in 30 metres distance of Indian category, the sources added.

On the other hand, in the women’s category, Mahila Rifleman (General Duty) Sapna while participating in the State competition for the first time won gold medal in individual Olympic round in the Indian category and won silver medal in the 50 metre distance Indian category.
