Guwahati: The Manipur Police on Saturday said a joint team of the state police and Assam Rifles has seized a cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from the restive state’s Churachandpur district.
The team during search operations recovered a tear gas gun, a country-made 9mm pistol with magazine, five 12 bore single barrel rifles, eight live rounds of ammunition, 13 improvised mortar shells, and five improvised heavy mortars from the Khengmol Hills of Churachandpur district.

The security forces, including Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Indian Army and other central paramilitary forces have been conducting regular search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts of Manipur.
On the other hand, the state police have put up as many as 110 nakas (checkpoints) in different districts of the state.
The security forces have also been taking strict measures in all the vulnerable areas of the state and a security convoy is being provided in the sensitive stretches to ensure free and safe vehicular movements.

Meanwhile, movement of as many as 172 vehicles carrying essential items along the National Highway-37 and 169 vehicles along the National Highway-2 were ensured over the past 24 hours.
