Guwahati: Continuing operations against illegal weapons in Manipur, the security forces conducted a series of joint operations in six districts of the state over the past few days.

These operations resulted in the recovery of as many as 22 weapons, improvised explosive devices (IED), several live rounds of ammunition and other combat materials from the districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Bishnupur and Thoubal.

In one of the operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a .303 sniper rifle, a 9mm carbine machine gun, a 9mm pistol, a single barrel breech loading (SBBL) gun, grenades, and several live rounds of ammunition, besides other combat materials from a forested area between Laimaton and Aigejang in Kangpokpi district.

In another operation, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a 9mm carbine, a pompi shotgun, a grenade and several rounds of live ammunition from a freshly dug pit concealed with grass and black polythene bags in the vicinity of B Phainom village in Thoubal district.

In a search operation with help of a trained Army dog, the Indian Army and Manipur Police recovered a 2-inch mortar, a .303 rifle, a double barrel rifle, two pistols, a Pompi gun, grenades, several live rounds of ammunition and other combat materials from the fringe area of Lairok in Imphal East district.

In a number of joint operations, two .303 rifles, two .22 mm semi-automatic rifles, one large country-made mortar (pompi), a 12 bore pistol and several live rounds of ammunition were recovered from Teibung village in Churachandpur district.

Simultaneously, the Indian Army, Manipur Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered a self-loading rifle (SLR), an IED weighing approximately 2.4 kilograms, grenades, and other combat materials from Bishnupur district’s Uyungmakhong village,

Moreover, a single barrel bore rifle, two 9mm pistols, grenades and several live rounds ammunition were recovered from Imphal West district in a joint operation by Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police from Shantipur Makha Leikai Shamushang village in Imphal West district.

The recovered items were seized and handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal.
