Manipur Police Department introduced its first Cycle Patrol Unit at Kakching District Police on Monday.

It was launched by state police IGP (Zone -1) Clay Khongsai at a function held at the office complex of the SP, Kakching District Police. Khongsai attended the function as a chief guest.

The unit was launched in presence of DIG (Range -III K) Radhashyam; deputy commissioner, Kakching district, Nelienthang Telien; CO, 3rd IRB Wangbal, N. Herojit; SP, Tengnoupal district, S. Ibomcha; SP, Kakching district, Victoria Yengkhom and several other high ranking police officials.

At the function 60 cycles were allotted to police stations at Sugnu, Kakching and Pallel of the district including outposts at Singtam, Wangoo, Lamkhai, Umathel, Langmeidong, Sekmaijin and Kakching R/L (M/W).

Khongsai praised the initiative taken up by Victoria Yengkhom, SP of Kakching District Police and said that this initiative will help in reducing the fear of the public as the sight of the Cycle Patrol Unit would be less intimidating.

He also said that apart from bringing the public and police closer, the cycle patrol unit will help in saving fuel and also reduce pollution.

Also, the cycle patrol unit will help in catching better sights of any kind of illegal activity at a place.

Khongsai also said that plans to launch cycle patrol units in other districts of the state will also be taken up.
