Imphal: Manipur Police, working jointly with central security forces, have apprehended a suspected drug trafficker and seized “World is Yours” (WY) methamphetamine tablets valued at around Rs 1 crore in the regional illegal market.
In a separate operation conducted within the last 24 hours, the joint team also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, officials said on Wednesday.
In the first operation carried out on Tuesday, the team arrested Md. Sajid Khan (28), a resident of Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhul Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district.He was detained at Sekmai Pangaltabi, near Life Line Hotel and LNC and Son’s Filling Station under Sekmai Police Station.
Authorities recovered 10,000 WY amphetamine tablets weighing approximately one kilogram from his possession, along with other incriminating materials.
In a second operation, joint forces recovered a cache of weapons from the foothills of the Chakma Hill range under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal district.
The seized items included a stun gun, one double-barrel breech-loading (DBBL) firearm, one single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) firearm, a pistol with a magazine, an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing approximately 2 kg, and an I-COM radio set.
Officials added that the arrested individual, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
