Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on May 16, 2026, reviewed the ongoing infrastructure development works at the National Sports University (NSU) campus in Koutruk, Imphal West and reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to completing the project by the end of the year.
During the visit, the Chief Minister inspected the progress of construction activities and assured that work on the approach road leading to the campus would begin next week to improve connectivity. He also announced temporary measures to address water scarcity, including the digging of around six borewells and assured adequate security deployment to facilitate uninterrupted construction work.
The Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for realizing the vision of establishing the countryโs only National Sports University in Manipur. Upon his arrival at the campus, Singh was warmly welcomed by NSU Vice-Chancellor Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS (Retd.), former Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), along with other university officials.
At a review meeting held inside the academic block, Anirban Roy, Assistant General Manager of the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), briefed the Chief Minister on the status of the ongoing works.
Officials informed that the upcoming campus would include 60 faculty residential quarters and a multi-purpose sports hall spread across the ground and first floors.
Addressing the media after the inspection, the Chief Minister stated that the university campus would have the capacity to accommodate nearly 1,300 students.He emphasized that the government is prioritizing the timely completion of the project within this year.
The review meeting was attended by Sekmai MLA Heikham Dingo Singh, Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh and other senior officials.
On his return from the campus visit, the Chief Minister also stopped at the Koutruk Community Hall, where local residents felicitated him. Interacting with the villagers, he assured them that the state government would examine and address their grievances with due attention.
