Imphal: Three sophisticated service weapons were looted by armed miscreants from Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel after launching an attack accompanied by mortar and drone bombings in Manipur’s Imphal East district in the wee hours of Monday (September 2, 2024).
The miscreants reportedly launched mortar and bombing attacks using drones at the security area of the 8 IRB deployed at Meikhang village under the jurisdiction of the Lamlai police station in the district.
The miscreants captured three bunkers of the IRB for a few hours and looted an INSAS Rifle, an AK Rifle, and a LMG, that were left behind by the IRB personnel. The incident took place at around 2.30 am, a police report said.

With the reinforcement of additional security forces, a fierce gun battle ensued forcing the miscreants to flee. However, they fled with the looted weapons, the police said.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Police chief has directed all the senior superintendents of police to remain on maximum alert and extra vigilant in the fringe areas. The DGP in an order asked the security forces to be alert in these areas.

“There must be proper coordination between the forces deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The joint combing operation must be conducted. Additional DGP (L&O) and other high-ranking police officers must critically monitor the law and order situation to prevent any untoward incident,” the DGP said in the order.
