Imphal: A 41-year-old man died of electrocution, while his wife received burns after coming in contact with a high-voltage water pump/motor at his house inundated by flood at Imphal on Friday, officials said.

Ingudam Nitai, 41, a cardiovascular patient with a pacemaker in his chest died on the spot when he came in contact with the water pump as soon as he activated the motor/engine at his house at around 3 pm on Friday.

Ingudam Nitai, a resident of Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak in Imphal West district was trying to remove the inundated water from a room of his house.

His wife Ingudam Gitarani Devi, 36, who tried to save his husband from being electrocution also suffered severe burn injuries.

She was immediately rushed to the Advance Hospital, Imphal where the doctors attending to her said that the condition of her is still critical.

This is the second incident of electrocution as the state has been experiencing a flood due to Cyclone Remal.

On Thursday, one Laishram Sanatomba, 66, a resident of Uchiwa village died of electrocution near the lamp post that was flooded with water at its ground level in an area of Imphal west district.

So far, a total of five persons including two females lost their lives owing to various incidents arising out of the killer Cyclone Rental in Manipur.
