Manipur Legislative Assembly will set up a museum and archive to preserve precious records, historic documents, photographs, rare objects and articles connected with the origin, growth and functioning of the Assembly.

Speaker Y Khemchand on Saturday told media that the main objective of establishing the Manipur Assembly Museum and Archives was to preserve the past and present political history of Manipur for the future generation by protecting them from destruction due to time and negligence.

The proposed museum will have different sections such as museum section, archive section, photographs section and exhibition section. A well equipped conservation laboratory that would take care of preservation and restoration of important artefacts is also in the pipeline

For establishing the museum and archives, a steering committee was also formed with Deputy Secretary as the Chairperson and other officers as members, he said. Collection of photographs of former and present chief ministers, speakers, secretaries of Manipur Legislative Assembly and various historical data has also been started.

He also appealed to people to extend all possible help and to contribute artefacts related to the history of Manipur keeping in mind that the Museum and Archives being established is for the future generation to help in the study of the political scenario of the state. He further said that the museum would be opened to the people after proper preparation.

As of now the staffs have collected various data related to the political history of Manipur with the support of the various museums in the state, he added.

Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly M Ramani Devi and officials and staffs of the Assembly Secretariat were also present during the day’s interaction.
