A ‘wreath laying ceremony’ with full military honours and decorum was conducted in memory of rifleman, Champeswar Mahakhud who was killed in duty on September 7, stated a release from IGAR (South).
The wreath laying ceremony was conducted at Tulihal International Airport by Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector of Assam Rifles, it stated.
Manipur Agriculture Minister, V Hangkhanlian; chief secretary of Manipur, Dr J Suresh Babu; YSM, IGAR (South), Major General K P Singh; IGP (Zone-I), Clay Khongsai; commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, brigadier Amit Kabthiyal; commander 28 Sector Assam Rifles, brigadier Neelesh Bhanot; DIG CRPF, brigadier S K Sharma along with Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, Superintendent of Police of Chandel and Imphal West also paid honours to the soldier of 29 Assam Rifles, the release further stated.
Rifleman, Champeswar Mahakhud lost his life in an attack by insurgents at Joupi in Chandel district of Manipur.
He was a resident of Sambalpur district in Odisha and is survived by his wife and one child, the release added.
“Champeswar Mahakhud was a dedicated, brave and sincere soldier and the nation will remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice,” the release further stated.
