Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday re-launched the helicopter service of the State at Imphal International Airport.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) helicopter service will facilitate flight services from the airport to Jiribam, Moreh & Tamenglong in Manipur.

The helicopter service will be operated by Global Vectra Helicorp Ltd under Department of Transport of the Manipur government.

Global Vectra Helicorp Limited is the largest private helicopter company in India.

The spectrum of operations of the company encompasses support to India’s offshore oil and gas industry, onshore operations for State governments (VVIP flying), election flying, heli pilgrimage etc.

The helicopter service of Manipur was earlier operated by Noida based Pawan Hans Limited but the company later discontinued the service in the state from February this year.

The first helicopter service of the state between Imphal and Jiribam at Harinagar Helipad in Jiribam district was launched in September last year.

The purpose of this service is to transport passengers and patients from remote areas of the volatile border state.
