Imphal: The Manipur government on Thursday said that the closure of all the government, aided and private unaided schools has been extended till July 6, 2024, given the grim flood situation in the state.

This is in continuation of the previous order which states that the closure of all educational institutes opening in the state till July 4, 2024.

The government appealed to the public to stay indoors and not to move about except for emergencies so that authorities can carry out rescue and relief works smoothly.

L. Nandakumar Singh, Director of Education (School), Manipur in an order states that the closure of the educational institutes has been made due to flooding of many areas and inconveniences caused to households and installations across the state.

The state is facing unprecedented flood due to incessant rain and in view of the worsening flood conditions causing submergence of a vast tract of residential lands and educational institutions alike, and keeping in mind the safety of the students and teachers of the state.

All Zonal Education Officers/DI of Schools (Independent Charges) under the Department of Education-Schools, Manipur are also directed to inform all concerned under your jurisdiction and take necessary actions accordingly.

Because of the prevailing flood situation, the state government declared July 4 as a public holiday for all government offices including public sector undertakings/corporations/autonomous bodies/societies under the government.

According to the order issued by GAD deputy secretary Angom Heera Singh, all departments involved in rescue and relief operations, namely Home, Police, Fire Services, District Administration, Relief & Disaster Management, Power, Health & Family Welfare, PHE, Water Resources, PWD, GAD, CAF&PD, MI, Forests, LDA, etc., shall have a working day.
